New mineral species for Hungary in 2001
Sulphides
Geocronite Pb14(Sb, As)6S23 Locality: Polyánka and Andrássy II. mines, Rudabánya. Description: steel grey grains (0.1-0.4 mm) together with boulangerite in galenite ore. Kawazulite Bi2Te2Se Locality: Nyírjes, near Gyöngyössolymos, Mátra Mts. Description: microscopic grains together with tetradymite and tellurobismuthite in a Bi-telluride ore indication. Metastibnite Sb2S3 Locality: Polyánka mine, Rudabánya. Description: dark red, adamantine incrustations and films up to 0.1-0.5 mm thickness in a galenite ore. It can be found on fibrous stibnite crystals and barite crystals.
Oxides
Cesarolite PbH2Mn3O8 Locality: Szár Hill, Szabadbattyán ore deposit. Description: black, 0.5-1 mm nests and veinlets in a weathered ore. Associated minerals are cerussite and “limonite”.
Carbonates
Nahcolite NaHCO3 Locality: near Lake Péteri, Petőfiszállás, Great Hungarian Plain. Description: microscopic grains in sodic efflorescences.
Sulphates
Burkeite Na6CO3(SO4)2 Locality: Apajpuszta, Great Hungarian Plain. Description: microscopic grains together with illite and calcite in sodic efflorescences. Wattevillite Na2Ca(SO4)2 • 4H2O Locality: Andrássy I. mine, Rudabánya. Description: snow white, porous or mealy incrustations together with gypsum and slavíkite as a recent mineral.
Phosphates and arsenates
Austinite CaZn(AsO4)(OH) Locality: Rudabánya. Description: colorless and yellowish green, lath shaped crystals up to 0.5 mm in cavities of limonite ore.
Faustite (Zn, Cu)Al6(PO4)4(OH)8 • 4H2O Locality: Etelka mine, Parádfürdő, Mátra Mts. Description: opaline, pale green nodules up to 0.5-1 mm and globular aggregates.
Silicates
Hydroxyapophyllite KCa4Si8O20(OH) • 8H2O Locality: in a limestone quarry, Szár Hill, Polgárdi. Description: colorless, stubby columnar and equant, pseudocubic crystals in wollastonite skarn.
